The True Story Of Nick The Firedog

This is the Children’s version of the true story of Nick The Firedog. An abused pitbull puppy was left abandoned and tied to a fire hydrant a block away from a firehouse in Newburgh, NY. The firefighters found the puppy and adopted him. He became a local celebrity helping to raise funds for other unfortunate animals and help teach children about fire safety. Nick has his own facebook page and people come from all over to visit him at the firehouse. Nick’s story shows how what may look like the worst day can turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

My Review

When Nick the dog was left by his owners, tied to a fire hydrant – he thought it was the worst day of his life. However, it turned out to be the best day ever when the firefighters adopted him. I thought this was an incredible story. It showed real human compassion and also showed that not all pitbulls are vicious. I love how they made him a special for jacket and used him to teach children fire safety. Incredible true story that children will love. The illustrations are super cute and bring the book to life!

About The Author

Dexter, Jr. is a 20 year veteran of the Fire Service. The author currently holds the rank of Assistant Fire Chief of the City of Newburgh, NY Fire Department where the real Nick the Firedog lives. This is the first book he has written which tells the true story of how an abandoned puppy got a new lease on life as a firehouse mascot.
