Eudora Space Kid: The Great Engine Room Takeover
By David Horn
Eudora is a typical 3rd grader. A typical 3rd grader who lives on a 36 deck AstroLiner. In space. A normal girl adopted by what you might call… aliens. Her mom is a dog-like species named a Pox and runs the onboard jail (brig). Her dad is an octopus-like species from the planet Pow. She is a girl who has normal ambitions, like being the chief engineer on an AstroLiner.
Eudora is a girl who comes up with a plan to prove her worth by improving her AstroLiner’s engines and breaking all known speed records. Will she succeed and earn a promotion? Or will she end up in the brig? Again…
What a cute, and totally relatable story! Eudora is a very curious little girl who is too smart for her own good. She lives on a spaceship with her adopted family and one day wants to be a officer in the AstroFleet. Her antics are always seeming to get her into trouble though. I think this is a great book for early readers. With smaller chapters and the occasional picture to go along with the story – kids of all ages will enjoy the book. I loved the variety of characters – aliens, half breeds and out of this world animals. The story is written from Eudora’s perspective so there were intentional spelling errors that just added to the whimsy. Overall really cute book, and I’m looking forward to what Eudora gets into next!
