Heston Hogs

Heston Hogs is a creative interactive storybook app for children ages 2-5. It is a story about a little hedgehog and his family. Kids are able to press play ▶️ to get to the next page or speech bubble.
There are other parts to the story where your child is able to help Heston or to find things by tapping on the screen and moving objects around. This app can be found on iOS or Android. The story is illustrated/animated and developed by Antti Laitinen in collaboration with UK-based children’s writer, Laura Caputo Wickham. This app also comes in 4 different languages! En, Es, Fi, Fr.
Our Thoughts
You know me, I’m all about reading and childhood literacy. This is a cute app with an equally cute story. With it’s interactive parts any child would think they were playing a game while reading (win, win). I tried to have my son (2yrs old) interact with the story but he was at a loss. This could be due to the fact I don’t let him play with tablets/phones that often. I would change the age rating from 3-6 honestly, then it would be perfect. This would be a great tool in those long today trips for kids that “demand” screentime, without the parents having to feel guilty about it.
Meet The Creators
Antti Laitinen
Antti has been a professional software developer for 10 years, of which 2 he’s been an entrepreneur. He was a hobby arrests for a couple years. Antti got inspired by toddlers books and games while he occasionally helped out his wife’s small daycare business. Antti, 31 years old, has been happily married for 2 years, and they have an adorable 7 month old boy.
Laura Caputo Wickham
I am a SCBWI member and 2020 graduate of Curtis Brown Creative in ‘Creative Writing for Children and YA’. My first two picture books were published by Long Bridge Publishing and I’m currently working on a very exiting series of picture books with a Christian publisher, which should be coming out in 2021. So, watch this space! I’ve been working as a freelance children’s writer for a wide range of clients. From indie publishers to toy companies, gaming apps and museums. In my free time, I help with my church’s toddler group and I volunteer as ‘Reading Angel’ with my local school. During these sessions, we discuss style, characters, plot, etc. which gives me precious insight of what today’s children like and dislike.
