Jake’s Mom and the Runaway Circus Train
By T.P. Brennan
Illustrated by Alejandro Echavez
One day while working for the railroad, Brakeman Jake accidentally allows the animal section of a circus train to be set loose through a railroad train yard. Soon, the circus animals are on a collision course with the fastest freight train on the railroad, the Cannonball Express, which is traveling at full speed down the main track. Will someone be able to stop the circus animals in time and save the day?
What a wild ride?!?! I really enjoyed reading this story and trying to figure out whether or not they would get the train stopped in time. For a picture book, it really keeps you on edge. I loved that the animals actually talked to the people involved. You’ll be rooting for Jake’s Mom as she tries with everything she has to stop the train, with no help from a few of the animals and tremendous help from a big grizzly bear who would rather stay anonymous. A longer story than most picture books – I would put the age range between 6-8 yrs old for this one. Check it out!
