One day while working for the railroad, Brakeman Jake accidentally allows the animal section of a circus train to be set loose through a railroad train yard. Soon, the circus animals are on a collision course with the fastest freight train on the railroad, the Cannonball Express, which is traveling at full speed down the main track. Will someone be able to stop the circus animals in time and save the day?

My Review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

What a wild ride?!?! I really enjoyed reading this story and trying to figure out whether or not they would get the train stopped in time. For a picture book, it really keeps you on edge. I loved that the animals actually talked to the people involved. You’ll be rooting for Jake’s Mom as she tries with everything she has to stop the train, with no help from a few of the animals and tremendous help from a big grizzly bear who would rather stay anonymous. A longer story than most picture books – I would put the age range between 6-8 yrs old for this one. Check it out!

About The Author

T.P. Brennan was born and raised in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School, class of 1969. On his 18th birthday, Mr. Brennan started his railroad career with the Erie-Lackawanna Railway, Co. and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard that same year.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Coast Guard, Mr. Brennan returned to the railroad. During his railroad career, and after his promotion to conductor, T.P. Brennan worked for the Erie-Lackawanna Railway, Co., Consolidated Rail Corp., New Jersey Transit Rail Operations, and Amtrak, retiring with 48 years of service. He served as president of both Local 1411, Hoboken, NJ, and Local 60, Newark, NJ, with the United Transportation Union.

Mr. Brennan has been married to his favorite passenger and love of his life, Sally, for 28 years and is the father of two adult sons. He lived in New Jersey his entire adult life before moving to Florida, where he currently resides.

Hearing many years of railroad stories and folklore, along with his hands-on experience with circus trains, Mr. Brennan imagined bringing this story to life. Children’s fascination with both trains and the circus seemed to be the perfect combination. Jake’s Mom and the Runaway Circus Train is T.P. Brennan’s first children’s book.
